{"id":1313,"date":"2017-12-04T14:05:59","date_gmt":"2017-12-04T22:05:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tradewindssailing.com\/?p=1313"},"modified":"2017-12-04T14:01:17","modified_gmt":"2017-12-04T22:01:17","slug":"frap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tradewindssailing.com\/wordpress\/skippers-tip\/frap\/","title":{"rendered":"FRAP!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No, I&#8217;m not cursing at you, although it is one of my personal pet-peeves!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/dictionary\/frap\">Here it is from Merriam-Webster<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"main-fl\"><em>verb<\/em><\/span> <span class=\"pr\">\\<span class=\"unicode\">\u02c8<\/span>frap\\<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"in-more\"><strong>frapped\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"in\"><strong>frap<span class=\"middot\">\u00b7<\/span>ping<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Definition of <em>FRAP<\/em><\/p>\n<p>transitive verb<\/p>\n<div class=\"d\">\n<div class=\"sense-block-one\">\n<div class=\"scnt\"><span class=\"ssens\"><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0 to draw tight (as with ropes or cables) <span class=\"vi\">&lt;<em>frap<\/em> a sail&gt;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"scnt\"><\/div>\n<p class=\"scnt\">I&#8217;m not sure why they say &#8220;&lt;frap a sail&gt;&#8221; &#8211; I&#8217;ve never heard it used in that way. A common use around here is, &#8220;Frap your halyards!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"scnt\">This morning as I was headed down to the docks to make a couple of pre-Saturday repairs, I was met by a friend, who is also a live-aboard (lives on his\u00a0boat). His complaint to me was that it was very hard to sleep the night before because of all of the banging halyards! This prompted a walk-around of the Tradewinds Fleet and 3 emails to members about frapping halyards this morning!<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 608px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-1313-1\" width=\"608\" height=\"1080\" loop autoplay preload=\"auto\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/tradewindssailing.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/20150627_085333.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/tradewindssailing.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/20150627_085333.mp4\">https:\/\/tradewindssailing.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/20150627_085333.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>This one should have been an easy one &#8211; there is only one half of the halyard outside the mast, the other half is <em><strong>internal<\/strong><\/em>. This is an <em><strong>external halyard<\/strong><\/em>. Both halves of the halyard are on the outside of the mast. If there are any lines on it, something isn&#8217;t stowed properly! If you are unsure how to properly frap a halyard on a specific boat, please ask! Help us respect our neighbors by letting them get a good night&#8217;s sleep!
